out of my system:

a bipolaroid

This was my first ever improvisational performance to the public. This piece was an experimental process of me both coming to terms and resisting a formal bipolar diagnosis.

I wanted to push back on the perception that mental illness is the outcome of solely a biological condition and is instead a human response to the impacts of larger social inequities and imbalances in our communities, both inherited from the past and present.

Although we call our struggles and conditions by many names, it is still my belief that we as humans have the capacity to revolutionize the world within and around us by inhabiting our bodies in the way we would like to, not just for the utility of the American dream, but for our own expression and pleasure.

This was my first attempt at doing so.
