algo sagrado
As an artist-in-residence at Guapamacataro Center for Art and Ecology, algo sagrado was an homage to and exploration of my ancestral roots in Michoacán, México through installation, vocalization and improvisational movement.
I was deeply influenced by Patrisia Gonzales’ book Red Medicine: Traditional Indigenous Rites of Birthing and Healing and the symbols of the red thread and the spider woman.
It was my intention to enliven these images by breaking the barriers between the audience and performer while we collectively built a web/ritual together.
